Senator Jarigbe Agom Defects from PDP to APC, Meets President Tinubu
Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Senator’s defection was confirmed after he held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that he was led into the meeting by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio alongside another Senator, Kaila Dahuwa, who was also defecting to the APC.
This development is seen as a major political realignment in Cross River State, further strengthening the APC’s presence in the South-South region ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reliable sources disclosed that the senator’s move followed weeks of consultations with top APC figures both at the national and state levels, culminating in his formal decision to leave the PDP.
Supporters of the lawmaker described the defection as a strategic move to align with the administration’s policies of economic reform and national stability under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, some members of the PDP in Cross River State have expressed disappointment, saying Jarigbe’s exit marks a major setback for the opposition in the state.
