In the wake of the reigning Super Lig champions’ 3-1 win over PAOK in midweek Europa League action, coach Okan Buruk praised the Nigeria international, emphasising that Osimhen’s contributions extend beyond goal-scoring.
The 50-year-old coach also pointed out Osimhen’s significant effort during matches, admitting that he fits well into the team both as a player and a person and emphasising the value of having him on the squad.
“Victor Osimhen’s game is very important,” Buruk said. “Not everything is about scoring goals. You (can) score goals, but you lose the game.
“When he sees the net, he passes the ball to the closest player. If he focused only on scoring goals, it could be different.
“He fights a lot during the game. He suits us very well as a player and a person. It is very valuable to have him with us.”
Osimhen’s playmaking skills have been instrumental in Galatasaray’s recent success.
His last goal involvement was a crucial assist for Yunus Akgün, helping the Yellow and Reds kick off their Europa League campaign with an emphatic victory. The 25-year-old came close to scoring in the same game, but his header was deflected into the net by Ghana international Baba Rahman, leaving him waiting to open his account for Cim Bom.
His Galatasaray debut was marked by an assist against Rizespor, and he followed that up with another in the intense Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe.
With three assists in as many games, Osimhen is proving to be a key player for the team, much more than just a goal scorer.
