Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representative for Ideato Federal Constituency [Imo State] has accused allies of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State for the bombing of the Action People’s Party (APP) headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
According to him, the perpetrators carried out the plan on the opposition political party to make the state ungovernable and subdue opposition political parties in the state.
The lawmaker made the known in a statement on X while reacting to the bombing of APP headquarters in the early hours of Monday.
According to viral reports, a suspected dynamite explosion rocked the secretariat of the Action People’s Party located along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, in the early hours of Monday, around 1 am, shattering windows and doors, and causing significant property damage.
It was reported that unknown assailants threw substances believed to be dynamite into the building, resulting in the blast.
This development comes amid rumours that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is considering defecting to the Action Peoples Party (APP) with his loyalists, following allegations that his predecessor and former political mentor, Wike, has taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, reports SaharaReporters.
Reacting to the incident, Ugochinyere, who directly accused pro-Wike group of being responsible for the bombing, described the suspected bombers as political extremists and terrorists who are desperate to make Rivers State ungovernable and thwart the activities of the opposition political parties in the state.
Ugochinyere, who is also the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP), said they had warned and raised the alarm when, according to him, pro-Wike Abuja group attempted to bomb parts of Port Harcourt, and the bomb ripped off the hands of the bomber.
He added that yet security agencies had not prosecuted or fished out the sponsors.
Calling on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene before it is too late, the lawmaker said that the same people will bomb down Nigeria’s democracy if not stopped.
He said, “Political extremists and terrorists who are desperate to make Rivers State ungovernable bombed the party headquarters, which was just renovated ahead of the Rivers LGA Election, in which the APP is tipped to win by a landslide as the party of popular choice in Rivers State.
“As the Spokesperson of the Opposition Coalition CUPP/all elected officers both in parliament and executive Nationwide whose parties belong to the CUPP Alliance, I want to categorically state that the bombing of Opposition parties and their offices is now an extremely low level of madness that has been fueled by those who claim to be working for Ruling govt.
“This is the 3rd time bombings have allegedly been introduced by these Abuja elements who want to make Rivers ungovernable, and this time, Mr President, you have to take a hard decision, as silence will mean that their devilish action is acceptable.
“Let the security agencies immediately fish out the perpetrators of these dastardly acts, which are acts of National terrorism capable of bombing our democracy if not checked.
“Act now, Mr President, as the history of your action or inaction will be recorded for you, and this growing criminal terrorism action can spiral into other hands and cause bigger harm to our democracy.
“We warned and raised the alarm when the Pro wike Abuja group attempted to bomb parts of Port Harcourt, but God made the bomb to first rip off the hands of the bomber, and up till now, your security agencies have not prosecuted or fished out the sponsors.
“Today, we have a strong belief that this new terror act is the handwork of these same elements because they are scared that APP has been chosen by Rivers People in view of the destruction of PDP and APC by these Abuja elements as the party of choice for the upcoming Rivers election hence the need to bring it down.
“This is time to act before it’s too late, Mr President.”
