In an interview with Channels Television, the APC chairman, Emeka Beke, reaffirmed that the 27 lawmakers, led by Martins Amaewhule, are valid members of the party.
However, he emphasized that their failure to attend the meeting would result in disciplinary action.
Beke’s statement comes after a court judgment confirmed him as the authentic chairman of the Rivers APC, ending months of leadership tussle with Tony Okocha.
The 27 lawmakers, who are loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have been at odds with the APC leadership in the state. The party’s threat of disciplinary action may further escalate the rift.
Emeka Beke, while reaffirming the participation of the Rivers State APC, in the forthcoming local government election in the state, commended the judiciary for upholding democracy in Nigeria.
Emeka Beke’s executive was dissolved by the national working committee of APC led by Abdullahi Ganduje on the grounds of anti-party activities during the 2023 general election in November last year.
