The NDLEA, in collaboration with Customs and other security agencies, intercepted a container loaded with over 31 million pills of 240 mg of Voltron at the Apapa seaport on November 6. The drugs, misdeclared as diclofenac sodium tablets from India, were discovered during a routine inspection.
Director of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, stated on Sunday in Abuja that the arrest came after months of intelligence gathering and painstaking surveillance by the operatives of the NDLEA.
Meanwhile, operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, intercepted a shipment containing 700 grams of “Loud,” a potent cannabis strain, on November 5. A software engineer, Olu Marshal, was arrested when he arrived to collect the package. A search of his residence in Lekki led to the recovery of drug paraphernalia.
Further, on November 8, operatives thwarted an attempt to smuggle 32.5 kilograms of codeine syrup and 5.7 kilograms of cannabis to London. The shipment, concealed within tiger nut cargo at the airport’s export shed, led to the arrest of a suspect, Orji Ogbonna Nnaorji, at his warehouse in Ajao Estate.
The recent Lagos operations reflect the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd.), commended the agents for their dedication and stressed the importance of ongoing surveillance and collaboration with other agencies.
NDLEA commands continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation lectures and advocacy visits to worship centres, schools, workplaces, palaces of traditional rulers, and communities throughout the past week. Instances include WADA sensitisation lectures to students and staff of Park Royal College, Apapa, Lagos.
