The minister, who was in Bauchi to sympathise with the state over recent flood disasters, defended the president’s actions amid economic difficulties.
Umahi said despite inheriting a struggling economy, Tinubu is taking “wide and courageous decisions” to reset the nation.
“For me, even when there were challenges in the South-East in terms of the Muslim-Muslim ticket, I kept saying that it was the will of God for the president to come and reset the nation and retake our nation.
“The president has taken wide and courageous decisions but it may not be very clear to the citizens, especially those who are not deeply exposed.
“When you have somebody that is sick, the first thing you do is to give first aid and then begin to do tests to find out the problem but the good thing is that the president is a technocrat, he knows everything about the situation in the country,” said Umahi.
The minister mentioned several initiatives, including cash transfers, student loans, and the promotion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an energy alternative, as examples of the president’s efforts to alleviate citizens’ suffering.
“He (Tinubu) is doing a lot to alleviate the sufferings of the people. When you talk about the cash transfer, the student loan, the CNG to answer the needs of our energy,” he said.
The minister also touted Tinubu’s focus on security and infrastructure development, particularly mentioning the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road project as part of the Tinubu legacy projects aimed at enhancing transportation and economic growth in the North-East.
Addressing concerns about regional disparities, Umahi stated, “Talk about his exploits in the area of security, road infrastructure. Yes, the North-East has been saying that they were short changed but the President is set to change the narratives,” he said, assuring that the federal government is actively working on repairing damaged roads in Bauchi State, including sections of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway and the Azare-Misau road.
Governor Mohammed, in response, called for an expansion of the federal government’s projects in the Northeast.
He praised the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure initiatives while pledging continued support for federal policies and programmes.
During the visit, Umahi and Mohammed inspected the damaged section of the Babaldu-Ningi-Bauchi road.
