It was reported that HTS had taken full control of Hama and Homs, while Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali made a statement saying that they were ready to cooperate for the formation of a transitional government.

Stating that he would go to his office in the morning and continue working, al-Jalali also called on Syrian citizens not to damage public property. He did not mention the news that Assad had left the country.

HTS, which took action with the attack on Aleppo on November 27 and took control of Damascus after Homs and Hama, announced that President Bashar Assad had fled the country.

HTS’ statement said, “After 50 years of oppression under the Baath regime, 13 years of crimes, tyranny and forced displacement, today, on December 8, 2024, we declare the end of this dark period and the beginning of a new era in Syria.”
