Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Hon. Ademola Ige made this known at an event to commence the formal payment of gratuities and death benefits to another batch of retired primary school teachers and local government retirees.
The death benefits will be presented to the next of kin of departed retirees.
Hon. Akeem Ige explained that the decision to pay N1.65 billion as gratuities and death benefits was sequel to an increase in monthly allocation to the board.
He said the funds will benefit 413 beneficiaries, while a new policy of monthly payments for gratuities and death benefits will take effect from January 2025.
Earlier in his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Alhaji Lukman Muraina stated that the funds were allocated for the collation of three months’ payments, adding that retirees would receive their gratuities immediately after the ongoing screening process.
