The stampedes occurred as the victims attempted to receive palliatives distributed to the less fortunate by private organisers.
Bishop Oke issued a press release expressing the condolences of all PFN leaders and members across the country to the leaders and families who lost loved ones during the stampedes.
“The loss of nearly 60 precious lives, mostly children, is a dagger to our hearts. We pray that the God of all grace will console and strengthen
“His Excellencies and all of the families affected. Our thoughts are with them and the injured. We wish them a speedy recovery.
The PFN praised health authorities and first responders for their bravery in providing life-saving care during a critical situation. He praised their unwavering dedication and care.
In light of this tragedy, the PFN called for thorough investigations and the immediate implementation of policies and structures to prevent such calamities from occurring again.
The release went on to say, “Ensuring safety protocols at all gatherings, particularly those involving children, must be a top priority. We must thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to these disasters and take meaningful steps to protect all participants in future events.”
The PFN, on the other hand, stated that the stampedes are a sign of severe hunger in the country. “It is symptomatic of a collapsed economy, even though Nigeria is specially blessed and endowed.
“Our leaders must pay more attention to enacting laws and implementing policies and strategies that will make food more affordable to the average person.
“It is heartbreaking to see people struggling for food and being killed in a land that is abundant with milk and honey’’.
