The Executive members of the forum made their position known at a press conference held in Benin, where they called on the Inspector General of Police, the AIG zone 5, and the Edo state commissioner of police to call their men to order.
The Executive led by the chairman Benjamin Osa’s Iredia from Uhunmwonde says their colleague Kingsley Osehon was whisked away by some fierce-looking policemen in the presence of his wife and other family members as if he was a criminal.
He said their investigations revealed that the police are being used by the opposition to orchestrate the act because they feel they have control of the government at the centre.
The National Councilors Forum reminds the police that the arrested Kingsley Osehon is an elected lawmaker and should be accorded respect due to his position.
The councillors said they have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, the AIG Zone 5 and the Edo state Commissioner of Police.
Attempts to get the reaction of the Police Public Relations officer of Edo State Police Command were unsuccessful.
However, in a previous interview via telephone, the public relations officer of the main opposition party, APC Barrister Uwadia, said the party is not involved in the arrest of any PDP member.
