Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja , on Saturday, led participated in controversial Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, state Congress at the party Secretariat along Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, Port Harcourt.

The exercise held under tight security protection despite different confusing Court orders for and against holding of the PDP, Congresses in Rivers State that culminated in the State party delegate Congress.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of the State, his deputy, Professor Mrs.Ngozi Odu, the members of the State executive Council and the 23 Caretaker Committees and their Chairmen and the loyalists boycotted the exercise.

Amidst cheers, Wike was welcomed by the surging crowd of PDP delegates when he arrived at the venue of the Congress.

Before casting his ballot, Wike, thanked the delegates (who wore different attires), for their peaceful disposition and urged them to stay together and work together.

It would be recall that in July, Justice Charles Wali prohibited the party, its National Chairman Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, or their agents, from gathering anywhere in Rivers State to hold ward, local government, and state congresses until the court hears and determines the suit before it. The suit was filed by at least one PDP member from each of the 23 Local Government Areas.

Before Justice Wali’s order, Justice Sobere Biambo had issued an order in a suit filed by David Omereji and 10 others stopping the PDP, its national chairperson, national financial secretary, and national organizing secretary from conducting the congress.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja was said to have countered the first order and allowed the party to proceed with its congresses. Justice Peter Lifu stopped the DSS, the police, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and seven others from stopping, or disrupting the congresses.

At the time of filing this report, the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 members of the State Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike Minister of Federal Capital Territory were already seated and were accredited at the venue for the congress.

It would also be recalled that the status of the Lawmakers was a subject of litigation in various law Courts following their defection from PDP to APC last year.

Our Correspondent reports that in the programme of events, there was a slot stating the expected arrival of Governor Fubara.

At the time of filing this report, the Wike was casting his ballot followed by other delegates.
