Dailytrend.ng understands that the duo specialized in trailing individuals withdrawing large sums of money from banks and launching attacks at vulnerable moments, often near their homes or workplaces. Their capture followed weeks of surveillance after reports of rising incidents of post-bank robberies within the metropolis.

According to Naija247news, police investigators found several incriminating items, including cash, stolen mobile phones, and a small arsenal of weapons, in the suspects’ hideout. The 50-year-old suspect, Emmanuel, shocked reporters during a police briefing when he openly expressed regret for his actions. “I am ashamed of myself,” he admitted, visibly shaken. He explained that financial hardship pushed him into crime but stopped short of justifying his actions, describing them as “a shameful chapter” in his life.

Naija247news gathered that both suspects have a history of petty theft and fraud, but this is their first arrest for a violent crime. Their tactics allegedly included following customers leaving banks and feigning emergencies, such as flat tires or engine trouble, to ambush their targets.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Olatunji, emphasized the importance of vigilance among bank customers. Speaking to Naija247news, he said, “We urge everyone to remain cautious and report suspicious activities immediately. This arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to tackle urban crime.”

Naija247news understands that investigations are ongoing to uncover whether the suspects had accomplices or links to a larger criminal network. Both men are expected to be charged to court in the coming days.

This incident has reignited conversations about personal security and the responsibility of financial institutions to protect their customers. Naija247news reports that local advocacy groups are calling for improved surveillance systems and security measures at banks to deter such crimes.
