Recall that Lawal had accused Matawalle of being a bandits’ sponsor and undermining efforts to find a solution to the insecurity crisis in the state.
However, Matawalle stated that he swore with the Holy Qur’an when he was governor between 2019 and 2023 to deny the allegation, but Lawal and other politicians in the state refused to swear to back their claims.
Speaking via a statement on Wednesday, Kwankwaso described the sitting governor’s position on the war against banditry as diversionary.
The tough-talking Kano-born politician said “Matawale’s records and background are impeccable, and his appointment as minister is testament to his integrity.”
He urged the governor to cooperate with the federal government and Defense Minister to combat banditry in Zamfara and Northern Nigeria rather than politicizing the issue.
He emphasized the need for patriotism and unity in addressing regional problems for the benefits of all.
Kwankwaso stressed in the statement that, “Leaders should shun divisive tendencies and work together to solve the region’s challenges.”
He maintained that “The governor’s actions are seen as diversionary, aiming to shift focus from successes achieved in fighting bandits and other criminals.”
