The village head of Ngami, a neighbouring community, Michael Duzaho, told City & Crime that all households and other valuables around the community were set ablaze by the attackers.

Duzaho added that the development was coming after a villager, Mark Hussaini, was earlier shot dead on Saturday, on his farm along with others, at the Gidan-Dogo area, which had also been previously sacked by the bandits.

City & Crime learnt that most of the affected villagers are currently taking refuge at Mpape, and Ngami in Kaduna State, as well as the Tokulo community in the FCT.

A police source that visited the community following the incident described the bandit’s action as a vendetta, adding that the gunmen had previously accused the villagers of reporting their activities to the security men.

The source said, “The kidnappers were still holding grudges with the villagers over the casualties they had suffered during a clearance joint operation by the security men around the axis some months ago, as they were always suspecting them of sharing information with us.”

A farmer, who escaped from the attack was taken to the Bwari General Hospital by the police in the FCT Command, where he received first aid medical attention, before being referred to an undisclosed medical facility where he is currently on admission.

Locals alleged that villages around the axis were abandoned by the police from Kaduna, leaving them under the mercy of bandits, with little response from the neighbouring police in the FCT.

The Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansur Ahmad, didn’t respond to a message sent to his contact yesterday regarding the incident.
