Three years ago, Onuoha engaged a man named Yunusa Yakubu to work as her driver. But on April 6, 2024, the driver disappeared with the Man diesel 12-tyre truck. Onuoha attempted to reach the driver but discovered that his phone was switched off and that he had relocated his family and brothers to the village. When contacted, the driver’s wife claimed not to know his whereabouts and later switched off her phone.

Yakubu allegedly sold the unregistered truck to Abubakar Isah Usman, who resides in Bachirawa, Kano at a giveaway price of N13 million, despite its current value of N39.5 million.

Onuoha took the matter to the E Police Station in Festac, and the accused was later arrested. He was ordered to return the stolen truck to Lagos, which he did on April 30, 2024.

On inspection of the truck, Onuoha noted that all the tyres had been changed from new to old ones, the engine and gearbox had no oil in them, and the engine had oil gushing from it.

Usman stated that he did not want to incur further losses by fixing the truck, replacing the tyres, or reimbursing Onuoha for her expenses incurred in securing his arrest and paying for his extradition back to Lagos.

He was subsequently granted bail with two sureties. Onuoha demanded justice, including the purchase of 10 new tyres, repair of the gearbox and engine, and repainting of the truck due to an accident.

She claimed to have spent over N5 million on logistics for the investigation and operation. Onuoha accused the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac of allowing the accused to go free and continuing to victimise innocent women who are trying to make a living.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident. Usman declined to comment, stating that he had ongoing issues to deal with.
