The 70-year-old politician was the executive governor of Taraba state for 8 years (2015–2023) under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to TVC News, Ishaku was arrested over alleged N27 billion fraud.
How EFCC arrested former governor Ishaku
The former PDP governor was picked up by EFCC operatives at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Friday.
A source disclosed that at least 15-count charges have been filed against Ishaku and he would be arraigned in court soon as evidence against him has been compiled, Daily Trust reports.
Another source said he was detained after he could not provide satisfactory explanations for financial impropriety that happened under his watch.
“Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the State governor. There a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated,”
The EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Ishaku’s arrest but declined further comments.
Ishaku’s arrest is coming on the heels of an ongoing face-off between the EFCC and the former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello over alleged N80.2bn fraud.
Yahaya Bello Drags EFCC to Supreme Court
Meanwhile, Legit reported that there seems to be no end to the legal drama between former governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In an attempt to free himself from the EFCC wanted list, Bello has taken the anti-graft agency to the Supreme Court.
