This decision comes amid the ongoing face-off between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Bawa Mokwa, Spokesperson of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the government will respect the court order stopping the disbursement of monthly allocations to Rivers.

“What I got is that the October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the matter of Rivers State allocation,” Mokwa told Daily Post on Friday.

The court order was issued by Justice Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on October 30, following an originating summons filed by the factional Rivers State Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule.

The Amaewhule faction had accused the State Executive, under the leadership of Fubara, of failing to comply with a Federal High Court order directing it to re-present the 2024 appropriation bill to the Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The face-off between Fubara and Wike has led to a month-long crisis in Rivers State, with the Amaewhule faction backed by Wike, engaging in a political battle with Fubara.
