Wesley Fofana has started every Premier League game this season, a sharp contrast with the 2023/24 campaign he missed fully due to an injury......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
The Frenchman notably struggled when playing out of position as a right-back in the 3-0 win over West Ham last weekend.
However, Chelsea fan Vince on X believes that Fofana is still far from his best and should not be a default starter in Enzo Maresca’s team.
“After preseason I suggested we slowly introduce Fofana because he looked rusty,” Vince tweeted.
“Of course, I rate the guy, wanted him at Chelsea but he’s clearly not in top shape at the moment or not key to anything at the moment.
“I think the first step is to rediscover his level, sharpness and match feel. He’s our best front-foot defender but Colwill is the key now and the future, not Fofana. Colwill has a higher ceiling without a doubt.
“Front front defending is good but you can’t make mistakes or your team is in trouble. Cucurella used to make mistakes but he has mastered it. Timing is everything.
“For now, I don’t think Fofana has mastered it. I believe Tosin is more stable than Fofana. He reads the game well and is always calm, not erratic. His style is different.
“Yes, Fofana is more aggressive but every defender is different. Tosin’s height, calmness, reading of the game, passing range and experience all top Fofana’s.
“So, Fofana has work to do. He needs to rediscover his best form before we can chat about him being the key.”
