Ibori-Suenu’s defection has long been expected by close political watchers in Delta State following the power play between the then Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Chief Ibori in the build-up to the 2023 election, leading to Chief Ibori and his followers losing grip on the PDP in Delta State.

Dailytrend.ng reports that an attempt by the Okowa-controlled PDP structure to stop Mrs Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu’s election when the party leaders openly worked for the NNPP candidate and also denied her and her father a chance to have input in the last PDP Ward and LG congresses was the last straw that broke the camel back.

Hon.Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu the Chairman House Committee on NDDC, was later received by the top echelon of the APC caucus in the Senate and House Of Representatives earlier today after her defection from the PDP to the ruling APC.

A PDP chieftain in Delta who spoke to us anonymously from Oghara, Ethiope West local government area, accused Mrs Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu of working against the party in the last election even though she ran on the platform of the PDP.

The leader, who is a former commissioner, added that she will not be missed by the PDP, describing her as a fading political force who rose to prominence through the back of her father, noting that now that Chief Ibori has been displaced in Delta politics, her daughter also will soon fade.

Similarly, the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives also lost four of its members to the ruling All Progressives Congress on Thursday.
The lawmakers Who left LP for APC are Tochukwu Okere (Imo), Donatus Mathew (Kaduna), Bassey Akiba (Cross River), and Iyawe Esosa (Edo).

Confirming the development, Matthew, who represents Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, said the decision to defect to the APC is based on conviction.

Their letter of defection to the APC was read on the floor of the Green Chamber by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas on Thursday.
