In a statement by Saka Salihu,

Head of Department, ICT and Media Unit, Office of the Comptroller General, Kogi State Vigilante Service, said the New Comptroller General, stated this during the statewide tour of the state security formations, sensitization and Verification across all kogi state vigilante service commands in the twenty-one local governments of the state.

According to him, this initiative which was launched to boost community engagement and optimize local security operations, has been a significant focus of the new leadership.

He noted that the sensitization phase involved a series of public engagements aimed at raising awareness about the Vigilante Service’s role and responsibilities.

He noted that during the visit, the Comptroller General held meetings with traditional rulers, conventional security agencies, community leaders, resident associations, and the general public, providing insights into how the Vigilante Service operates and encouraging greater community involvement in local security efforts.

In addition, the verification component of the exercise was focused on auditing the current state of vigilante units, this includes assessing the training, equipment, and operational readiness of personnel.

Speaking further, he said “The goal was to identify areas for improvement, enhance the awareness of security protocols among personnel, and rigorously verify their credentials and security clearances.

“This initiative aims to address potential vulnerabilities and reinforce trust in the management of critical operations.

He receives royal blessings from HRM, Mathew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, Attah Igala of Igala Kingdom, the president of Kogi State Traditional Council, Idah Kogi East, HRM, Ahmed Tijani Anaje, the Ohinoyi of Ebira Land, Okene Kogi Central. HRM, Oba Solomon Dele Owonyi, Obaro of Kabba and Chairman Okun Traditional Council highly represented by Honorable Chief Emmanuel O. Funsho, Kabba Bunu Kogi West.

Similarly, he visits all other first-class traditional rulers, receives their blessings, and discusses the critical roles traditional rulers play in maintaining peace and order within their jurisdictions.

He stressed that this initiative marks a pivotal step towards enhancing inter-agency cooperation in the fight against crime and improving security within communities, saying that the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration between the Vigilante Service and conventional security agencies, including the police, military, and other law enforcement bodies.

While commending the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for focusing on the welfare and recognition of vigilante personnel, underscoring the state’s recognition of the vital role vigilante personnel play in community safety.

“The Comptroller General’s presentation of the governor’s message served as a motivational boost and a reaffirmation of the administration’s ongoing support for their welfare and professional development.

He noted that feedback from the public and local leaders has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the initiative’s role in enhancing transparency and fostering a stronger partnership between the Kogi State Vigilante Service and the community, saying that the Comptroller General’s efforts are expected to lead to more robust and coordinated security measures across the state.
