The crisis according to Sahara Reporters, started on Sunday, September 29th, and escalated through Tuesday, October 1st.
The paper reported that trouble began after an Hausa boy was nabbed trespassing in a Yoruba woman’s home.
He was subsequently beaten by the Yoruba community which later resulted to his unfortunate death at the Sarkin’s palace.
“The Hausa boy was caught stealing from a Yoruba woman’s house and was even beaten by other Hausa individuals on Sunday. He was taken to the Sarkin’s palace, where he requested water, which was given to him by a Hausa woman.
“Tragically, he passed away shortly thereafter. By 7pm, Hausa youths rallied together, unleashing chaos and destroying Yoruba properties, burning down houses and vehicles.
“Alhamdulillah, I narrowly escaped death; the only loss I suffered was my glass windows. I am now displaced from my home and seek your prayers and support for my family,” affected resident told Sahara Reporters.
Also, another member of the community reported that the youths returned on Tuesday morning, targeting people from other tribes.
“They are back, attacking us and vandalizing our properties. Many of these thieves hail from the Sarkin’s household. In the past, when caught, they were taken to the Sarkin’s palace, only to be released immediately.
“A close Hausa friend warned me late last night to leave my home, as they planned to kill Yoruba people and others today.
“Yesterday, one of the Hausa boys stabbed a member of our community, the owner of Adumas School, while he was escorting his students home amid the crisis. Although police apprehended the boy, he has since been released. We are all leaving our homes now, as these Hausa boys threaten to kill us.”
