One of the governors in the northern part of the country, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has mandated that all state government employees present their original certificates to receive their October salaries, potentially putting over 7,000 workers’ positions at risk......See Full Story>>.....See Full Story>>
This directive appears to stem from recent discoveries of certificate scandals within various ministries, boards, and parastatals.
In a statement released on Thursday in Yola, Humwashi Wonisouko, the chief press secretary, emphasized that this measure is not aimed at targeting anyone specifically but is intended to restore integrity within the civil service.
“Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has issued a directive requiring all workers in government institutions, ministries, boards, and agencies to immediately present their certificates,” he stated.
The governor explained that the initiative seeks to ensure qualified individuals hold positions, preventing unqualified persons from obstructing opportunities for the younger generation.
Related to this, the governor noted, “This exercise is not intended to witch-hunt anyone but rather to ensure sanity in the system.”
Fintiri also warned that any employee who fails to comply with this directive will forfeit their October salary until their certificates are submitted.
However, he reassured workers that those who present their certificates before the end of October will not face salary denial.
The governor’s decision reflects concerns about individuals exploiting systemic failures for personal gain. “These issues must be addressed, and the service should be a haven for scholarship and honesty, rather than a haven for misfits,” he remarked.
