In separate interviews in Abuja, NLC spokesperson Benson Upah and TUC Deputy President Tommy Etim emphasized the importance of others following the Federal Government’s lead.
When asked about the move, Upah said, “Yes, I think so. We ask other entities to emulate this example.”
Etim added, “The Federal Government’s committee on consequential adjustments has already released a template, so no one has any moral ground to delay the payment of the minimum wage. We now advise that all other parties follow suit and commence the payment of the new minimum wage.”
However, not everyone is satisfied with the wage increase. A civil servant on grade level 12 expressed disappointment, noting that the raise doesn’t adequately address the economic challenges many Nigerians face.
“This salary increase I am seeing is too small compared to what we have faced in the last one year and the current economic hardship in the country. I think we have been deceived. Is this what we waited months for?” the officer said.
