Leading the delegation, Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance at the Niger Delta Development Commission, expressed regret over the tension, describing Fubara’s actions as disrespectful.
The apology was made during the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress, held in honour of Wike
in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Iyaye stated, “On behalf of our people, we are apologizing to you for what our son is doing. We are sorry, as this is not in our nature. You have done well for us, and we will continue to be grateful.”
He went on to urge Wike not to let the current misunderstanding sever his ties with the Ijaw people.
“Do not, because of this bad behaviour, run away from us. Continue to be our brother,” Iyaye added.
Similarly, the Chairman of the PDP Rivers Elders Forum, Ferdinand Anabraba, condemned the Fubara administration, emphasizing that the views of the governor do not reflect those of the Ijaw people.
“The aberration we are seeing in the administration of Rivers State is a display of individual political incompetence and does not represent the opinion of the Ijaw people,” Anabraba said.
He further praised Wike as “the light of Rivers State” and a key figure in Nigerian politics.
The elders stressed that Wike’s efforts had helped the Ijaw people achieve significant political milestones in the state, including Fubara’s rise to the governorship.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Chief Emeka Beke, has criticized
27 state lawmakers for denying their defection from the PDP.
