The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that they are currently reviewing the election documents as part of their preparation for legal action.
Ologunagba emphasised the PDP’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating, “We are a party of law and order. We believe in the rule of law, and we don’t resort to self-help like the APC does.”
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining electoral institutions, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police.
He added that despite frustrations, the PDP remains committed to the legal process, trusting that the rule of law will ultimately prevail.
The PDP maintains that its candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, won the election based on the results from polling units across the state.
Ologunagba noted that the party has gathered evidence to support its claim and will pursue justice through lawful channels.
“Our legal team and officials are meticulously examining the election results,” Ologunagba said, assuring that the party’s official position will be announced shortly.
He highlighted concerns about INEC’s integrity, claiming it has failed to maintain its independence and adhere to its regulations.
“INEC is supposedly independent, but it has corrupted itself by refusing to follow its own rules,” he remarked, drawing comparisons to the robust democratic systems in other countries. The PDP asserts that its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, won the election based on polling unit results.
The party is expected to file its legal challenge in the coming days, as it seeks to assert what it claims is “the true will of the people” in Edo State.
“We have all the results from the units, and it is clear that we won that election,” Ologunagba reiterated, expressing confidence in the legal process to ensure that democracy is upheld.
