The Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Nemi Iwo, disclosed this on Friday while parading the suspects in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
One of the suspects being detained is an alleged gang member who allegedly broke into one Promise Ehichoya home on May 7, 2024, tied him up, took him somewhere unknown, and demanded a ransom of N6 000,000 before releasing him.

“On 7th May 2024 at about 1 am, a masked gang of armed robbers/kidnappers invaded the home of one Promise Ehichoya at Illela quarters in Ekpoma, tied him up, took him to an unknown destination, and collected a ransom of #6, 000, 000 before releasing him”, the CP said.
“The suspects made away with the victim’s vehicle and other household items including phones of various make, electronics, jewelries, and clothing from the house. However, his vehicle, a Toyota Venza with Reg No LND 438 HM was later abandoned and recovered to the station.
One Richard John Abdullahi, 40 years old, was arrested and tracked down by State Intelligence Department SID agents in the Zone C of Apo resettlement quarters, Abuja. A bag containing a Beretta pistol and three live rounds was found in his possession. The gold chain and bracelet that were previously stolen in the kidnapping incident in Ekpoma were recovered following a further search of his home.
The CP also urged state residents to give the Command information that might aid in the identification and capture of suspected criminals.
