Goodness Ovie, the 27-year-old vendor, shared her story on TikTok, posting a heartfelt video in which she recounted the series of violent encounters she has faced. In her emotional appeal, Ovie explained that her peaceful business operations have been disrupted multiple times, with her stall and supplies repeatedly targeted by the men from her neighborhood.
“I’m sharing this here as a memory bank since my phone has limited storage—I want to look back on this someday,”
Ovie began. She described how her nightly noodle business, intended to provide for herself, has instead become a source of constant fear.
“These guys in the area constantly destroy my table and items for reasons I can’t understand. This has happened three times now, and I’m at my breaking point,”
she lamented.
The harassment escalated when she insisted on upfront payments for her products. “Sometimes, when I ask if they’ll pay by cash or transfer, it creates problems. They slap me, threaten me, and often try to beat me up,” she recounted, explaining that she feels vulnerable living alone and away from her community.
Ovie also revealed that the men have broken into her storage to steal her supplies, further complicating her struggle to keep her business afloat. Despite her efforts to maintain a low profile, she feels increasingly isolated and unsupported, as local authorities have failed to intervene.
“I’m struggling and exhausted. It’s as though society is set against me, only looking for ways to take advantage. I feel lost, depressed, and hopeless,”
she expressed.
“If these local leaders continue to turn a blind eye, one day they might even kill me—but I trust God will protect me.”
Following her post, numerous users responded with messages of support, offering encouragement and solidarity to Ovie during this challenging time. Many have called for action against the perpetrators, urging community leaders to address the situation and protect vulnerable individuals like Ovie.
