Despite only 6,100 seats remaining out of the total 71,600 sanctioned, the university allocated more seats in anticipation that many students may not accept their offers. “In the first round, around 35,000 students did not accept their allocated seats. Considering this trend, we are allocating more seats in the second round to ensure all seats are optimally filled and classes can begin on August 29,” said DU Dean of Admission Haneet Gandhi.

Of the 43,067 candidates who opted for upgrades, 27,554 were allocated seats with higher preferences in this round. Additionally, DU reconsidered candidates who were initially rejected due to invalid certificates or documents, re-evaluating them under the unreserved (UR) category based on merit and seat availability.

To streamline the admission process, the university enhanced its system to automatically activate the allocation of upgraded seats, enabling colleges to process these admissions directly. This change is expected to address grievances from students who previously faced challenges when missing out on upgraded seats.

Students allocated seats in this round must confirm their acceptance by 4:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and pay the required fees by 4:59 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024. Those seeking further upgrades must complete the payment within the given deadline.

The third round of allocations, which will focus on performance-based programs and supernumerary quotas, including CW, ECA, Sports, and Ward categories, will be announced shortly.
