The decision came following a virtual meeting held yesterday, where the governors unanimously approved the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Alaghi, the current PDP National Treasurer, as the new Acting National Chairman.
According to an aide to one of the governors, the move is intended to strengthen party unity and ensure strict adherence to the party’s constitution.
The governors in attendance included: Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State); Governor Douye Diri (Bayelsa State); Governor Godwin Obaseki (Edo State); Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori (Delta State); Governor Agbu Kefas (Taraba State); Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State); Governor Peter Mbah (Enugu State); Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun State) and Governor Pastor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom State).
Key Resolutions reached at the meeting were unanimous endorsement of Iliya Damagum’s suspension and approval of Alhaji Ahmed Alaghi as the new Acting National Chairman.
The governors also reaffirmed commitment to upholding the PDP’s constitution and resolving internal conflicts through formal party channels while emphasizing their dedication to the party’s progress.
“The governors reaffirm their commitment to building a stronger, more united PDP, prioritizing the party’s interests above individual agendas,” the statement read.
The suspension of Damagum is expected to take immediate effect, with continued dialogue between party stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
