Veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, has shared how she ended her planned marriage due to domestic violence.
Naija News reports that she revealed this during a chat with actress Ayo Adesanya on the show Real Life With Aunty Ayo, where she recounted the painful incident that made her leave her relationship.
The actress said she decided to walk away a day before her wedding after facing repeated abuse from her partner.
Despite pressure from her family and the man involved, she refused to go ahead with the marriage or sign the registrar.
Ngozi recalled a moment when the man dragged her by the hair until she bled, which pushed her to fight back.
She explained that she gained unexpected strength during the incident and nearly retaliated fatally before neighbours intervened.
Speaking from her experience, the actress warned women never to stay in violent relationships, stressing that no one should remain with a man who beats them and later apologizes.
She urged ladies to leave once they notice signs of abuse, saying marriage should never be treated as a do-or-die affair.
She said, “I don’t believe marriage is a do-or-die affair. When the domestic violence is too much, you’ve got to move. If you take it once, get ready, you must be ready to take it for the rest of your life.
“My husband is this kind of violent person. I went to the kitchen to boil water, and he broke the kitchen door. I will never forget that day till I die. I plaited Bob Marley, he drew me, and one strand of the attachment came out with blood.
“I didn’t know where I got the strength from, but I picked up a pestle. I was ready to kill him that day and go to jail. My neighbours saw me naked.
“When I saw the domestic violence coming from his side, I walked away a day before our marriage and refused to sign the registrar.
“Don’t fall for any man who beats you and begs you later. Once beaten twice shy. If you take it once, you just be ready to take it for the rest of your life.”
