Nigeria has formalized a landmark partnership with LONGi, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, through the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), led by Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha. The announcement came during a visit to LONGi’s headquarters in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China, where the Nigerian delegation was received by the company’s President Boshen Zhong and Vice President Li Wenxue and toured one of the world’s largest solar cell production facilities.
The partnership builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year in London and includes plans to establish a 500–1000 MW solar panel production factory in Nigeria. The project is set to bolster the country’s renewable energy sector and increase local manufacturing capacity.
During the visit, ECN emphasized Africa’s growing market for solar energy and highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Policy, which aims to expand access to clean energy nationwide. LONGi expressed strong interest in investing in Nigeria and outlined readiness to move forward with construction plans for the factory.
This collaboration marks a major milestone for Nigeria’s renewable energy agenda, promising job creation, enhanced energy security, and sustainable development across the country.
