The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, October 22, announced its plan to screen Bernard Mohammed Doro, who was recently nominated for a ministerial appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during the plenary, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio said Tinubu has written to the Red Chamber seeking the confirmation of Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Akpabio while reading the president’s letter on the floor of the Senate said Tinubu has assured the Red Chamber that Doro’s nomination was made in line with the provisions of section 147(2) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
The letter read: “In compliance with the provisions of section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, distinguished Senate President and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest regards,” the letter added.
The Senate President further referred the President’s request to the committee of the whole for consideration.
Recall that President Tinubu had nominated Doro, an indigene of Plateau State to replace Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who was elected chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yilwatda had served as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before he was appointed as the ruling party’s chairman in July 2025.
Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy in a statement on Tuesday, October 21, said Doro’s nomination is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
