Kanunta, brother to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has declared that Kanu remains steadfast in his fight against the marginalization of the South-East, even if released from detention. Kanunta emphasized that Kanu’s demands since 2017 have focused on regional development, including infrastructure, education, and employment, not secession. He criticized both the federal government and South-East politicians for failing to address these issues while exploiting insecurity in the region for personal gain.

“Anybody who knows Kanu knows he is resolute. His release won’t change his focus on demanding a better life for his people. Those resisting his release are benefitting from the insecurity,” Kanunta said, urging President Bola Tinubu to honor court orders and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Kanunta also dismissed any connection between Kanu and Simon Ekpa, labeling Ekpa a “content creator” with no links to IPOB or its leadership. He criticized the federal government for failing to address the root causes of agitation and accused South-East politicians of enabling insecurity to secure political ambitions.
