He said those wishing to be Governors of Rivers State should wait till 2027 and present themselves to Rivers people for election.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo issued the warning while speaking on a motion entitled, “Matter Of Urgent Public lmportance” sponsored by the House Leader, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari, during sitting in Port Harcourt.
The speaker equally said those wishing to contest for the Rivers State House of Assembly should also wait till 2027 and present their manifestos to the electorate.
He said the House under his watch would not allow anyone to become Governor through the back door, stressing that Governor Siminialayi Fubara had not committed any offence to warrant impeachment.
Rt. Hon. Oko-Jumbo regretted the continuous refusal by the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC ) to conduct bye-election into the 27 seats vacated by former lawmakers despite series of letters to written to it.
He said Governor Fubara should be emulated for his leadership qualities and peaceful disposition, adding that despite distractions and provocations, the Governor has remained committed to the peace and progress of the state and its people.
According to him, nobody will be allowed to destroy democracy in Nigeria as the Constitution of Nigeria is very clear on defection by lawmakers from their party.
Earlier, the Leader of the House, Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari, while moving the motion, said the activities of the former 27 lawmakers had become dangerous to democracy.
Sokari, who is representing Ahoada West in the Assembly, said the motion was pursuant to section 99 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said something must be done to stop Martins Amaewhule from their illegal sitting as they are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The motion which was supported by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adolphus Timothy Orubienimigha was later put to a voice vote.
The House earlier in the day approved a request from Governor Siminialayi Fubara for the appointment of five Special Advisers.
