The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-South, Emmanuel Ogidi, has expressed confidence that governors and other key members who recently left the party will soon return.
Speaking on Arise Television’s news programme on Wednesday, Ogidi insisted that the PDP remains “an organised and resilient party” capable of resolving its internal issues despite the current wave of defections.
Dismissing speculations about alleged plans to destabilise the PDP’s forthcoming national convention, Ogidi said the party’s structures remain firmly in control of the process.
“There was a group planning to disrupt the convention when they met in Abuja and gave some conditions, but PDP is an organized party for God’s sake. You can’t just come out and call yourself stakeholders,” he said.
He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) were fully in charge of preparations for the convention, scheduled for November.
Ogidi also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had “weaponised hunger” to influence some individuals against the PDP.
“We all know why they are going, but we have strong belief they’ll come back,” he stated, expressing confidence that defectors would eventually retrace their steps.
The PDP vice chairman further accused some party members, including governors and senators, of impatience over the timing of the convention.
“Some of these governors or senators don’t have patience. The convention is just weeks away. Why are they thinking it won’t hold? We are in court, but that’s no reason to panic. If you’ve done the right thing, the court will give you justice,” Ogidi explained.
Ogidi assured party faithful that due process was being followed and expressed optimism that the convention would proceed as scheduled.
