Dokubo’s grievances are fueled by President Tinubu’s recent move to scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, a decision that has been perceived by many in the region as a disregard for their interests.
GistReel reports that the President’s decision to scrap the ministries was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, who announced the dissolution of the Niger Delta Ministry alongside the Ministry of Sports Development.
Dokubo argues that despite the historical alliances and support from the Niger Delta region, the Yoruba’s political choices have undermined the interests of the Ijaw and other groups in the region.
His statements, which surfaced in a widely circulated video, have ignited heated reactions and discussions.
In the video, Dokubo expressed his disappointment and regret, admitting that he once questioned the decisions of past Ijaw leaders like former Governor Melford Okilo to align politically with the northern region.
However, reflecting on recent events, he apologized to his predecessors, acknowledging that their decision to strengthen ties with the North was justified.
“I apologize to our fathers, Melford Okilo and Prieye. They were not wrong to align with the North. From now on, we’ll strengthen ties with the North,” Dokubo said, pledging a renewed commitment to fortifying the relationship with the North.
In his address to the Ijaw people, Dokubo condemned the Yoruba for allegedly disregarding the efforts and sacrifices made by the Niger Delta community during the election. “We risked our lives, voted, and did everything, and this is what we get? The Yoruba people do not value the Ijaw contribution. They betray us!” he lamented, referring to the region’s support for Tinubu.
