Dailytrend.ng had reported that Comrade Ajaero was arrested and detained earlier on Monday while travelling to the UK to address the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain and represent Nigerian workers in important discussions on workers’ rights and social justice.

The DSS, however, eventually bowed to public pressure and released Comrade Ajaero late Monday night.

The labour union had threatened to take serious action if the federal government did not free its president unconditionally by Monday midnight.

Following its Monday National Administrative Council, NAC, meeting, the NLC released a statement in which it called Ajaero’s arrest and incarceration “brazen and illegal.”

Nevertheless, the NLC promised in a curt post on its X account early on Tuesday to keep fighting, insisting that they cannot be silenced, despite Comrade Ajaero’s release.

“The struggle continues, we can’t be silenced,” the post reads.

The NLC pledged to “continue struggling,” but it’s unclear why. However, the labour union had four demands made from the federal government following the arrest of Joe Ajaero.

These include Comrade Ajaero’s unconditional release from DSS detention, the immediate implementation of the new minimum salary, the immediate reversal of the unlawful increase in power prices, and the price of gasoline being reversed.
